Show or Hide Widgets

This article helps Skilljar Starter admins control which widgets of a Catalog Page are visible to learners without deleting the underlying content.

This article helps Skilljar Starter admins control which widgets of a Catalog Page are visible to learners without deleting the underlying content.

Overview

Every Widget on a Catalog Page in Skilljar Starter, such as the header, menu, topic banner, search banner, and course lists, can be individually shown or hidden using the visibility toggle in layout mode. Hidden Widgets are preserved in the page configuration but are not rendered for qualifying learners. This lets you stage upcoming content, temporarily remove a widget, or run experiments without losing the widget's settings.

Each widget displays a small eye icon next to its boundary in layout mode. The icon indicates the widget's current visibility state and acts as the toggle:

  • Visible: The widget appears on the live Catalog Page and is visible to learners.
  • Hidden: The widget remains configured but does not appear on the Catalog Page.
  • Edit-only visibility: Hidden widgets are still visible to admins in layout mode and can be reviewed, reconfigured, or made visible again at any time.

Show or Hide a Widget

To toggle the visibility of a widget on a Catalog Page:

  1. Open your Skilljar Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Catalog Page you want to modify.
  3. In the admin toolbar at the bottom of the page, click Edit Layout. The page enters layout mode, and widget boundaries become visible.

    Edit layout button is displayed

  4. Locate the widget whose visibility you want to change. For example, the Topic Banner or Search Banner Widget.
  5. Click the eye icon on the widget's boundary:
  • Click the open-eye icon to hide the widget.
  • Click the eye-with-slash icon to show a hidden widget.

  1. Click Publish to apply the visibility change to learners.

Note: Hiding a widget does not delete its content or configuration. You can make the widget visible at any time without losing its settings.
