This article explains how to use filter groups to organize Courses, Pages, and Learning Paths and improve course discovery on Catalog Pages and Published Paths in Skilljar Starter.

Overview

Filter groups let you organize courses, pages, and learning paths into broader categories and improve content discovery for students. Pages and published path objects can both have filter groups applied to them and be filtered as an object from another catalog location.

Filter Groups on Catalog Pages

1. Open your Skilljar Dashboard, expand the Domains & Publishing header, and select Domains.

2. Find the domain you want to edit and select Catalog Pages.

3. Select the catalog page you want to add filters to.

4. Scroll to Filters and select New Filter Group.

5. Create your filter group from the tags that exist on courses, pages, or series published in your domain. Common groupings include course topics, difficulty, and content type.

6. Give the filter group a name, drag the tags you want from the left to the right, then select Save.

7. Return to the catalog page settings and scroll to Filters.

8. Drag your new filter group into the Visible on catalog page section and set the display order.

9. Select Save and Continue or Save.

Filter Groups on Published Paths

1. Open your Skilljar Dashboard, expand Domains & Publishing, and select Domains.

2. Find the domain you want to edit and select Catalog Pages.

3. Select the Published Paths tab and select the published path you want to edit.

4. Scroll to Filters and select New Filter Group.

5. Create your filter group from the available tags, give it a name, drag the tags from the left to the right, then select Save.

6. Return to the Published Path settings, scroll to Filters, and drag your filter group into the Visible on catalog page section.

7. Select Save and Continue or Save.

Student View

Once filter groups are visible on a catalog page or published path, students can select filters to narrow the displayed content to the topics most relevant to them.
