Publish or Cancel Layout Changes

This article explains how admins can publish or discard the changes made to a Catalog Page in layout mode in Skilljar Starter.

This article explains how admins can publish or discard the changes made to a Catalog Page in layout mode in Skilljar Starter.

Overview

When a Catalog Page is in layout mode, all changes you make to sections, visibility, content, and styling are held as pending updates until you explicitly publish them. The admin toolbar at the bottom of the page provides two actions:

  • Publish: Applies all pending changes to the live Catalog Page. Learners immediately see the updated page.
  • Cancel: Discards all pending changes and exits layout mode. The Catalog Page reverts to its last published state.

This workflow allows admins to make and review changes without affecting the live experience for learners.

The following concepts help explain how publishing works:

  • Pending changes: Any change made in layout mode, such as reordering sections, hiding a section, adding a new section, or updating banner text, is stored as a pending change.
  • Live state: Learners always see the most recently published version of the page. They do not see pending changes.
  • Publish: Replaces the live state with the current pending state. Once published, the change is immediately visible to learners.
  • Cancel: Discards the pending state and leaves the live state unchanged.

Publish Layout Changes

To publish pending changes to learners:

  1. While in layout mode, review the page and confirm all section, visibility, and content changes look correct.
  2. Use Preview State in the admin toolbar to verify the page renders correctly for each learner scenario.
  3. In the admin toolbar at the bottom of the page, click Publish.

Cancel Layout Changes

To discard pending changes and exit layout mode:

  1. While in layout mode, click Cancel in the admin toolbar at the bottom of the page.
  2. Confirm the cancel action. All pending changes are discarded, and the page returns to its last published state.

Note: Cancel is not reversible. Once pending changes are discarded, they cannot be recovered.
