Configure Comparison Widget

This article explains how to configure the Comparison widget in Gainsight PX Dashboards.

Overview

The Comparison widget in PX Dashboard allows you to compare two widgets and analyze change in data. It provides a flexible and intuitive interface for comparing two scenarios of a single widget with different sets of filters such as date, channel (web app, mobile, or desktop), custom filters, and Global Context applied. This provides the insights using a new widget, without the need for multiple side-by-side widgets.

Example business use cases:

  • Assess the performance of a feature by comparing the Feature KPI widget's data from quarters of the previous year to the whole year.
  • Evaluate the impact of a new feature by analyzing user session data from 30 days before and after the feature launch
  • Analyze the change in the stickiness of a product across two different sets of time periods, filters, and channels

Note: The Comparison widget currently supports the following KPI widgets:

  • Average Days Active
  • Average Session Duration
  • Active Users
  • Active Accounts
  • Events Recorded
  • Feature KPI
  • New Leads
  • New Users
  • New Accounts
  • Session Count
  • Stickiness Ratio

Compare Widgets

The Comparison widget displays the difference in values between two time frames, channels, filters, or global contexts. For simplicity purpose, we will use the following terminologies to explain how to compare two widgets:

  • Widget 1: The widget currently on the dashboard, representing recent data
  • Widget 2: The widget representing older or any data that widget 1 needs to be compared with.

Prerequisite: To use the Comparison widget, ensure that Widget 1 is available on the dashboard.

To compare the data:

  1. Click the three-vertical dots menu icon in Widget 1.

  2. Select Compare. The Compare slide-out panel appears. The left side automatically displays the parameters and filters applied to Widget 1.  You can update the parameters or filters, or proceed with the default configuration.

  1. On the right side of the slide-out panel, select the time range and other parameters (if applicable) of the older data (Widget 2) that needs to be compared. Some default values are auto populated per the chosen KPI widget, which can be modified per your needs.

  1. Click Add Widget. A new 1x2 Comparison widget is added to the dashboard, displaying change in data based on the filters, parameters, and metrics selected.

In the above example, the first KPI (5.8K) represents Widget 1, already on the dashboard.  The second KPI (6.8K) represents Widget 2. The change data (-1K) represents the reduction in new users onboarded in the last 30 days (Widget 1) when compared with new users onboarded during April 2024 (Widget 2). In other words:

  • Change data = (Values of Widget 1) - (Values of Widget 2)
  • % Change data = (Change data / values of Widget 2) * 100

Note:

  • Global filters applied to the dashboard also apply to the Comparison widget.
  • Changes made to the original widget (Widget 1) do not affect the configuration of the Comparison widget.
  • Comparison widgets can be cloned or deleted using the three-vertical dots menu icon.
    • A cloned widget is independent of the original widget (Widget 1) and the newly-created comparison widgets. Any modifications do not impact the cloned Comparison widget.
  • For widgets such as Average Days Active, Average Session Duration, Feature KPI, and Stickiness Ratio, additionally select the metric on which data must be compared:
