Source Field Enhancements

Gainsight NXT

This article explains how admin can fetch custom fields from Jira into Gainsight.

Overview

This Source Fields Enhancement feature helps the admins to add, view, and modify all the custom Jira fields in Gainsight. You can modify the display name, data type, and data format of the Jira field in Gainsight and map it to the equivalent object's field in Gainsight.

IMPORTANT: Gainsight only supports Incidents and Projects objects from Jira and you can view and modify all the custom Jira fields in these objects in Gainsight.

Prerequisite

A connection between Gainsight and Jira must be established before proceeding to fetch the details of the custom fields from Jira. For more information on how to establish a connection between Gainsight and Jira, refer to the Jira Connector article.

Add Custom Source Field(s)

While adding the source fields from Jira into Gainsight, you can modify the display name, data type, and data format of the Jira field.

To add custom source fields from Jira to Gainsight:

  1. Navigate to the Administration > Integrations > Connectors 2.0.
  2. Click the Settings icon and then click Source Field Enhancements.
  3. From the Select Connection dropdown, select the Jira connection and object (Incidents or Projects). All the existing Jira fields of the selected objects are displayed.

Note: Only the fields with a value at source are displayed. If you don’t see the desired field in the list, then click click here and search the field by entering the Project ID/Incident ID in the Find Fields by ID field.

To get the project and custom source field ID, you can use the following URLs. You just need to replace the "your domain" with your domain and paste on your browser’s URL field to search. Then, search for the project name, and it will show the ID.

  • Project: https://your domain.atlassian.net/rest/api/3/project
  • Incident: https://your-domain.atlassian.net/rest/api/2/issue/issueIdOrKey

  1. (Optional) Click View Raw Data to view the list of all the available fields and their attributes.
  2. Click Add Field. The Add Fields page is displayed.
  3. Select the source field(s) that you want to add in Gainsight.

Note: You can modify the display name, data type, and data format of the source field before adding it into the Gainsight.
Click Add to add the new source field(s) in the Gainsight.

Similarly, you can add custom source fields, while creating or editing a Jira connector job (containing Incidents and Projects objects).

Edit Source Field

You can edit a field and see a list of jobs that are affected by the change. Gainsight automatically updates the impacted jobs when you modify a source field. If the jobs containing the modified field are not updated for some reason, you need to manually modify them. You can view the list of outdated jobs and send a copy of the outdated jobs to your email to update them later.

To edit source field:

  1. Navigate to the Administration > Integrations > Connectors 2.0.
  2. Click the Settings icon and then click Source Field Enhancements.
  3. From the Select Connection dropdown, select the Jira connection and object (Incidents or Projects). All the existing Jira fields of the selected object are displayed.
  4. Click the three-vertical dots menu of the field and select Edit. The Edit Field page is displayed.
  5. Edit the following fields as required:
  • Display Name
  • Data Type
  • Data-Time Format
  • Decimal Places

Notes: The field name cannot be edited. You can view the list of affected jobs in the Impacted Jobs section. Click Mail Job List to send the list of the affected jobs to your email Id.

  1. Click Save. A confirmation message is displayed.
  2. Click Close.

Note: In case some of the jobs containing these fields could not be updated. Click Outdated Jobs to view and manually update these jobs. Click Mail Job List to send the list of the affected jobs to your email Id.
