1.What are the Use Cases for Data Spaces?
- Data Spaces are a way to combine fields and objects into a predefined combination that you can then use in Rules and Reports
- Data Spaces are intended to:
- Make it easier to report and build rules off of multiple objects at one time
- Create predefined Data Spaces of the most common subjects for reporting
- Expose Data Spaces to other admins and power users (who hold an Operations License) through Gainsight’s Report Builder, so they can easily explore data and pull the specific reports they need
- Use Data Spaces when:
- You need a Rule, Report or Power List on data from multiple related objects
- When you want to predefine a grouping of objects that can be used in the Report Builder
2. What are examples of when I would want to create a Data Space vs. build a typical report in the Report Builder?
- All data associated to CTAs, including CTA Tasks and Success Plans
- Objects included: CSTask + CTAs + CTA Group + CustomerInfo + Account
- All data associated with and filtered to a Relationship Type
- Objects included: Relationship + Associate Data in GS and SF + Account + CustomerInfo
- What products were sold in which opportunities for which accounts and customers
- Objects included: Opportunity Product, Opportunity and Account
- Want to send CoPilot outreaches to the owners of specific records in SF (like the Opportunity Owner)
- Objects included: Opportunity + User + Account + CustomerInfo
- Create reports that show rollups by Manager or Region
- Objects included: CustomerInfo + Account + User + User + User
3. What are the benefits of using Data Spaces?
- Save your team time and effort with a new paradigm for blending data
- Easily combine multiple fields and objects into a new and meaningful dataset
- Overcome the restraints of a traditional object oriented data model to produce the right combination of data your team needs
- Leverage the predefined Data Space as building blocks in your Gainsight configuration
4. What objects and object associations are supported by Data Spaces?
- Currently any Salesforce or Gainsight objects within the Salesforce environment are supported (but no data that lives in Gainsight’s MDA)
- Objects must be related to each other by either a Lookup or Master-Detail field type
5. What should I consider before building a Data Space?
- You should map out the data that you need and the objects that data lives on
- You should check how these objects are related (requires a Lookup or MasterDetail relationship)
- The relationship goes from the object the associating field lives on to the object it is looking up to
- Think through the object chain that you need to replicate from the ‘bottom’ or lowest level object to the ‘top,’ or the highest level object
- Keep in mind that if your lowest-level object does not contain records associated to the higher-level objects, then the higher-level object records will not be displayed
6. How many levels within a related object chain will Data Spaces support?

7. Who can use Data Spaces?
Data Spaces are included in the Gainsight Operations license and is only accessible through the Admin UI.
8. What are the current limitations of Data Spaces?
- Can currently only be used on Gainsight Objects within the Salesforce Environment (no MDA Objects)
- Not currently included in Vault
- Rules only support Relationship-level Data Spaces
- Data spaces have a base object and as long as the base object has a lookup on Account, you can add a report created using that data space to a C360 section. (E.g a report created from a data space where based object is CTA can be added to C360, but a report created on a data space where base object is Survey User Answer cannot be added to C360.)
