How to Add a Timed Quiz

Overview

With Timed Quizzes, you can set a limit on how long your learners can spend within a quiz. This can keep your learners progressing through content, increasing their engagement, and discouraging them from looking for your quiz answers elsewhere.

Create Timed Quizzes

To create timed quizzes:

1. Click Content and select Courses
2. Select the course you want to add the quiz to and click Add Activity, then choose Quiz
3. Select your desired quiz from the drop-down menu and check the box Time limit enable a timed quiz.

Check the boxes if you want to allow learners to retake the quiz and specify the number of attempts allowed for retakes, or check the box next to Unlimited. Check the box below if you want to hide correct answers and then you will see the option of.

Changes are saved automatically.

Learner Experience in a Timed Quiz

Before starting a timed quiz, learners are informed of the quiz rules on a Quiz Cover Page. This page provides essential details, such as the number of questions and the time allocated for completing the quiz. This information helps learners assess their readiness to take the quiz.

When you click Begin the quiz, the timer starts. The remaining time is displayed at the top right-hand corner of the screen. If you run out of time, a notification will appear, indicating that time is up, and the input fields will become disabled. At this point, you will not be able to answer any more questions and will need to retake the quiz if that option is available.

Note: The quiz timer cannot be paused. If you start a timed quiz and then navigate away from the page or switch to another browser tab, the timer will continue to count down.

After completing the quiz or when the timer runs out, you will see the Quiz Summary Page. This page shows which questions you answered correctly, which ones you answered incorrectly, and which questions you missed due to running out of time. The timed-out questions will be highlighted in the summary.
