How to include a list of relevant courses in your Communications messages

Add the dynamic Courses element to your emails, populated with the names and links to courses relevant to the message.

This article guides you on how to include a dynamic courses element in your emails. This element will be automatically populated with the names and links of courses relevant to your message.

Overview

Communications feature simplifies this by moving beyond generic emails. It introduces the Courses tool in the message content editor, allowing you to add a dynamic element to your emails. This element is automatically populated with the names and links of newly assigned courses or courses where a learner has been inactive. For your learners, this means just one click from opening an email to engaging with the right course content.

With the huge amount of emails competing for your learners’ attention every day, an effective academy must make sure that any impact it wants to make on the recipient's behavior is as easy and streamlined as possible.

Configure the List of Relevant Courses

  1. Use the navigation bar on the top of the screen to go to the Northpass Communications section of your academy. Note: You will need Administrator permissions to do that.
  2. Select the message you want to enrich with the dynamic Courses list. The tool is currently available for Course Enrollment and Inactivity Nudge messages.
  3. Switch to the Content tab.
  4. You will see the message content editor, which should look like this. Note: The availability of certain features can differ depending on your plan (Essentials, Premium, Enterprise).
  5. On the left-hand side of the editor under “Content”, find the Courses tool.
  6. Drag the Courses tool to where you want the list of courses to be placed in your message. We recommend right above the CTA.
  7. Upon releasing the mouse button, you will see the courses list added to the content of the message. Note: The names displayed and the content of the preview are just placeholders. In the resulting messaging, your learners will see the real names of courses with links.
  8. You can now customize the maximum number of courses you want to display (the default is 3). If the number of the courses relevant to the message is higher than the defined value, they will not be displayed on the list, but instead - be represented as “and x more…” (x being the number of overflowing courses) at the bottom of the list.
  9. Once you are happy with the configuration, make sure to save the Content of the message by pressing Save Content in the top-right corner, above the editor.
  10. (Optional) If you’d like to confirm that the message looks good before sending it, send a test email. Note: The courses list and the text below the table will include placeholder values instead of real course names.
  11. Set the message to Enabled (if it wasn’t already) in the Settings tab.
