Enable Branded Certificate Verification URL
This article helps admins enable and manage branded certificate verification URLs.
Overview
Branded certificate verification URLs allow students to verify certificates on your own branded domain instead of verify.skilljar.com.
For example, when a student completes a course, the certificate verification URL can use your branded domain:
https://learn.acme.com/verify/abc123
After you enable certificate hosting for a domain, the existing verify.skilljar.com certificate links automatically redirect to the branded verification URL.
Certificate hosting applies to certificate verification links in completion emails, LinkedIn profiles, printed PDFs, resumes, and previously shared certificate URLs.
Note: After certificate hosting is enabled for a domain, it cannot be turned off. This prevents previously shared certificate links from breaking.
Enable Certificate Hosting
Perform the following steps to enable certificate hosting for a branded domain:
- Open your Skilljar dashboard.
- Expand the Domains & Publishing header on the left, and select the Domain.
- Click on Domain Settings for the domain you want to enable certificate hosting.
- Navigate to Certificate Hosting, and select the Enable certificate hosting on this domain checkbox.

- Click Update Feature Settings.
- On the one-time enablement pop-up, provide final confirmation.

The certificate verification URLs for the selected domain are updated to use the branded domain.
Certificate hosting works only on an existing Skilljar branded domain. Skilljar does not automatically create a dedicated verification subdomain, such as verify.yourdomain.com.
What Changes After Certificate Hosting Is Enabled
After certificate hosting is enabled, certificate verification links are updated as follows:
| Area | Before Enablement | After Enablement |
|---|---|---|
| Verification URL | verify.skilljar.com/c/abc123 |
learn.acme.com/verify/abc123 |
| Completion email links | Use verify.skilljar.com |
Use your branded domain |
| Add to LinkedIn link | Uses verify.skilljar.com |
Uses your branded domain |
| Previously shared links | Resolve at verify.skilljar.com |
Redirect to the branded verification URL |
| Verification page | Displays “Hosted by Skilljar” | Displays “Hosted by your organization” |
The certificate PDF, certificate content, completion data, and certificate code do not change. Only the URL that hosts the certificate verification page changes.
Preserved Certificate Behavior
After certificate hosting is enabled:
- Existing
verify.skilljar.com/c/{code}links continue to work through a permanent 301 redirect. - Query parameters on existing verification URLs, such as UTM parameters, are preserved during the redirect.
- HTTPS is preserved during the redirect.
- The Add to LinkedIn link automatically uses the branded domain as the certificate URL.
- Recertification, expiration, and re-issuance behavior do not change.
- Certificates can be verified only on the domain associated with the issuing organization. Verification requests from other organizations’ domains return a 404 error.
Limitations
Branded certificate verification URLs have the following limitations:
- Certificate hosting works only on an existing Skilljar branded domain.
- Skilljar does not automatically provision a dedicated verification subdomain.
- Existing certificate PDFs are not regenerated automatically. PDFs that students already downloaded may still show the old
verify.skilljar.comURL. These links redirect correctly when scanned or clicked. - To display the branded URL in the certificate PDF, regenerate the certificate.
- Certificate hosting is configured per domain. It cannot be configured per course or per certificate.
- Certificate hosting cannot be turned off after it is enabled.
